Aurora Approved Contractors

Contractor Approval Requirements

Operation and management of Aurora’s electricity distribution assets is carried out under contract by DELTA. Contractors wishing to work on the Aurora electricity distribution network must demonstrate to DELTA’s Engineering Services Manager that they have the skills and resources to undertake the work, carry specified insurance policies, and have appropriate policies and procedures in place to assure the finished quality of their work, and the health and safety of their employees and others.

Approved contractors will be periodically audited and asked to provide evidence that they continue to comply with Aurora’s approval requirements.

Connection Requirements

New connections to Aurora’s electricity distribution network must meet minimum standards to ensure the safety, reliability, and quality of electricity supplies, including the prevention of nuisance to other electricity consumers by the operation of the new connection.

These standards are defined in Aurora’s basic and technical requirements of connection, which may be viewed by clicking on the links below:

Design Notes

A consumer's future electricity costs will be minimised by designing the installation to optimise Aurora's future delivery charges with the consumer's installation investment and future operating costs. Too often the developer opts for least-up front-investment, leaving the consumer to face higher future costs. The document below describes how to minimise delivery charges:

Capital Contributions

Aurora, like many electricity distribution businesses in New Zealand, requires consumers and developers to provide capital contributions toward the costs of new assets required to enable new connections to be made. This is a long-standing policy, and has seen current consumers contribute to the cost of the existing network. Accordingly, it is not reasonable for current consumers to be asked to contribute to developments that are required to enable new connections.

Approved contractors need to have a thorough understanding of Aurora’s capital contributions policy, as they will be required to explain the requirements to developers and consumers when assisting them through the connection process.
