Current Projects

Deborah Bay and Aramoana

The project is currently underway and will be completed by March 2022.

The work will take place on PC5 (the line of supply) that runs from Deborah Bay to Aramoana.

What is the project?

We are partway through a major programme of much-needed network investment. As part of this, we are upgrading or ‘reconductoring’ a section of the network. The lines on this section have reached their end-of-life cycle and need to be replaced. This will not only replace ageing equipment but reduce the risk to the network, our contractors, and the public.

We have bundled a large programme of work together and will aim to complete roughly three months’ worth of work within three weeks.

This work will replace:

  • 48 power poles
  • 77 cross arms
  • 7.7km of power lines

We will also remove an old section of the network no longer in use and replace switches and isolation links that will enable smaller outage areas in the future.

All three of Aurora Energy’s Dunedin contractors (Delta, Unison, and Connetics) will be used over the duration of the project, to help reduce customer impact, with fewer times the power needs to be turned off.

The project has been broken into two sections, with a week’s break between.

Section One will take place between Wednesday 16 – Friday 25 February. Aurora Energy contractors Delta and Unison will be working on the network that runs adjacent to Aramoana Rd, from Deborah Bay to just outside the township. Otago Helicopters will also be assisting with stringing the new lines, so residents may notice some helicopter traffic during this period.

We have partnered with the Port Chalmers Library to provide community support to customers during this period. The library is always open Monday – Friday (9:30am – 5:30pm) with access to toilets and computers/Wi-Fi available for all visitors to use.

Section Two will take place between Monday 7 – Thursday 10 March. Aurora Energy contractor Connetics will replace a section of the network in the Aramoana township along Moana Street and onto Spit Road.

We have partnered with the Aramoana League and will be generating the Aramoana Hall for the 4 full day outages during the week, meaning locals will have access to water, toilets, and a range of facilities. We will also have a member of our Customer & Engagement Team stationed there during the week.

Thank you

We thank the local community for their understanding as we carry out this improvement work and apologise in advance for any inconvenience and disruption that may be caused.
