Current Projects

Glenorchy Reliability Enhancement

The project commenced detailed design work in September 2019 and progressed with the installation phase in March 2020. Due to the impact of Covid-19 restrictions, the full installation and commissioning is expected to be complete by the end of 2020.

The project is located in the greater Glenorchy area.

What is the project?

The purpose of the project is to install four reclosers as remote-controlled switches. This will allow the Network Operations Team to remotely isolate the Glenorchy area, if a fault should occur on the incoming supply line from Queenstown. It will also allow the remote control of the generator.

Why is the upgrade needed?

There is the risk of a single fault on the line from Queenstown causing significant outages for the Glenorchy community. By installing these switches, and providing remote control of the generator, we can quickly isolate the community from the network fault and restore supply using the generator, without the need to despatch technicians from Queenstown.

Thank you
