This project is predominately focused on replacing a 10.8 km stretch of 33 and 6.6 kV line and older wooden poles on what is known as B Line between Berwick and Outram.
This project us currently underway and is due for completion in 2021.
The project will take place between Outram Zone Substation, down Huntly Road, towards Berwick Zone Substation.
What is the project?
Aurora Energy is upgrading a section of the Waipori A, B, C Line. The project will be focussing on B Line only from Outram to Berwick. The poles and lines on this section have reached their end-of-life cycle and need to be replaced. On average, for every three wooden poles we remove, we will replace with one new taller steel pole, meaning the span of the lines between each of the poles will be longer.
Why is the upgrade needed?
As well as replacing ageing assets, this project also addresses public safety risks. Instead of replacing the poles like for like, we will reduce the number of poles. As a result, this will reduce the risk of car vs. pole and reduce the potential of harm to the public.
