  • 1 Contact an electrician
  • 2 Design and build plan creation
  • 3 Application to connect
  • 4 Review application
  • 5 Contracts and agreements
  • 6 Getting a connection to your property boundary
  • 7 Connection to your boundary completion

When the Point of Supply from our network is not at your property boundary, connecting to the network involves a few additional steps and more people than the simple connection process. The industry name for this is the Standard Connection Process.

First, speak to your electrician, they'll need information from you about the connection to make sure they can register it with us.

Make sure you have the following information available for them:

  1. Your contact details, including your email address so we can give you progress updates
  2. Your electricity retailer (who you pay your bill to)
  3. Current postal address, so we can send you paperwork if needed
  4. The address where the new network connection is to be made
  5. Connection use - is it for a new home, garage, shed, shop
  6. Land information – might include subdivision plans (if you're part of one), Lot Number and Dp number or section number and block number, whichever applies

Your responsibilities

Engage a registered electrician and provide them with the details of your new connection request

Your electrician's responsibilities

They will request information from you to begin the connection process

Step 2/9

Design and build plan creation

  • 1 Contact an electrician
  • 2 Design and build plan creation
  • 3 Application to connect
  • 4 Review application
  • 5 Contracts and agreements
  • 6 Getting a connection to your property boundary
  • 7 Connection to your boundary completion
  • 8 Installing your meter
  • 9 You're connected!

You've spoken to your electrician and provided them with all the information in step one.

Your electrician will now work with one of our Approved Network Contractors to get a design and build solution for your connection type.

Your electrician's responsibilities

Provide new connection information to Approved Network Contractor and request a design and build solution for your connection to the network

Provide you a quote for installation and works costs

Approved Network Contractor's responsibilities

Review the electrician’s request

Create a design and build solution for your connection to the network

Provide a quote for the works either to the electrician or the Customer, if the Customer contacts them directly

Step 3/9

Application to connect

  • 1 Contact an electrician
  • 2 Design and build plan creation
  • 3 Application to connect
  • 4 Review application
  • 5 Contracts and agreements
  • 6 Getting a connection to your property boundary
  • 7 Connection to your boundary completion
  • 8 Installing your meter
  • 9 You're connected!

The Approved Network Contractor will complete the application to connect by providing us with information like:

  • Capital funding requests, as we may contribute funding to your new connection
  • Design and build plans
  • Relevant calculations required for the design
  • Easement requirements

Approved Network Contractor's responsibilities

Complete an application to connect with us, which includes a Capital Funding Request

  • 3 Application to connect
  • 4 Review application
  • 5 Contracts and agreements
  • 6 Getting a connection to your property boundary
  • 7 Connection to your boundary completion
  • 8 Installing your meter
  • 9 You're connected!

Once we have received the application to connect from your Approved Network Contractor, our technical and finance teams review the application.

Our teams will approve the project if it meets our requirements.

Your Approved Network Contractor will receive an approval email from us.

Aurora Energy's responsibilities

Review and approve the new connection request

Now that your Approved Network Contractor has the Capital Funding Request approval, they will send you an Electrical Reticulation Contract Agreement (ERCA). You need to read through this agreement and see what actions are required of you. This agreement will include any requirements for easements.

Once the Electrical Reticulation Contract Agreement is finalised, it needs to be signed by you, your Approved Contractor and us.

Once the easement is finalised, it needs to be signed by you (as the landowner) and us.

Surveyors are also required to submit plans to be included in the easement agreement.

This step may take some time as there may be back and forth between lawyers and surveyors and approved contractors. You may need to act as a project manager here to keep this step progressing.

Your responsibilities

If an easement is required, engage your lawyer to help with this step

Engage a surveyor to provide surveyor plans for an easement agreement

Read and sign the Electrical Reticulation Contract Agreement (ERCA) and easement

Project management to keep all parties on track and ensure they are providing information to the correct parties at the correct time

Your surveyor's responsibilities

Provide the lawyer with details of the required easement – these are known as the surveyor plans

Your lawyer's responsibilities

Ensure the easement agreement is set up correctly enabling you access to our network going forward

Approved Network Contractor's responsibilities

Send you the ERCA and then sign it once lawyers have approved

Now that the agreements have been signed, your Approved Network Contractor is notified that they can commence work.

They will carry out the work agreed in the ERCA and easement agreement, bringing the network connection to your property boundary. They will notify us once the work has been completed and provide us with the ‘as built’ plan – this may differ from the original surveyor plans.

At this point they also provide us with a Certificate of Practical Completion and completion pack.
