Connect utility-scale system ≥ 1MW

Please note that utility-scale projects are subject to longer assessment timeframes due to the detailed technical review required.

We’ll confirm within 5 business days whether your application is complete or if more information is needed and raise an invoice for our application fee.

Our planning team looks at your application to see what else we need for technical approval.

You or your electrical consultant will hear from our team to let you know what details they need. This could include: 

• Network and design requirements 
• Constraints 
• Operational procedures  

Assessment and next application stage

• ≥1MW: Initial application decision provided within 40 business days.
• Following approval, you must submit an interim application within 12 months of receiving initial approval.
• Assessment timeframes for the interim application are 45, 60, or 80 business days, depending on size and complexity.

Timeframes follow the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 (Network Connections Amendment 2026). They may vary depending on the information provided, the technical complexity of the installation, and any third party dependencies.

Following approval of your interim application, you must make a final application within 90 business days of your interim application approval unless otherwise agreed this is not required.

Timeframe for approval

• 1MW or more but less than 5MW will take 30 business days
• 5MW or more will take 40 business days

The Distribted Generator must give notice of the intention to negotiate within 30 business days of final approval, and once this is received by Aurora Energy, both parties have 30 business days to negotitate the connection contract.

Our team will guide you through the next steps to connect your generation, whether this is new connection or a change to an existing connection.

Milestones

• Applications must meet specified milestones as referenced in Part 6 of the EIPC (Network Connections) Amendment 2026 to retain their priority position in the network connections pipelne and maintain approval.
• You must complete testing and inspection of your distributed generation within the timeframe specified by the distributor.
• This requirement may be waived where we are satisfied your system meets our connection and operational standards.
