We are upgrading the Green Island zone substation, one of six zone substations on the Dunedin electricity network.
We are future-proofing the network and strengthening the electricity supply for 4,300 customers in the wider Green Island area, from Concord to Ocean View, by replacing the current transformers and ageing equipment, and building a new switch room.
This project will accommodate growth in the wider Green Island area and sets the network up to service the higher demand expected in the future, as people change how they use electricity such as getting an electric vehicle. We will also raise the substation site, to help mitigate potential risks like a 100-year flood event of the nearby Kaikorai Stream.
We are taking a staged approach, with construction starting in February 2024 by our contractor Breen Construction. All work is scheduled to be completed during 2025.
No planned power outages are required, however there will be some traffic management required in the area.
