Update 2 - Dunedin Flooding: 3 June 2015, 6:00pm
03 June 2015Aurora Energy confirms that due to surface flooding and in the interests of public safety, we have disconnected electricity supply to Woodland Avenue, Kinmont Crescent and Gebbie Street in East Taieri. Power to the 150 electricity consumers affected will remain out until water subsides and power can be safely restored. Surface flooding is submerging ground-mounted electrical equipment.
Supply was temporarily disconnected to customers in Boundary Road and Heathfield Drive in East Taieri, and has since been restored. To urgently isolate the affected streets, we temporarily disconnected one of the feeders supplying East Taieri. The short interruption of 26 minutes affected 517 consumers.
Heavy rain continues and Aurora Energy anticipates that further urgent disconnections of power supply in Dunedin may be required in the interests of public safety. Dunedin electricity consumers should be prepared in the event of power outages. We continue to monitor water levels and the condition of electrical equipment.
Always treat all electricity lines and equipment as live at all times and keep well clear. Please call your electricity retailer’s faults number, to report problems with your supply.
We apologise for the inconvenience to affected electricity consumers as we take these necessary steps to ensure the safety of the public.
