Update 2 - Power Outages - Roxburgh and Millers Flat: 27 November 2017, 12:30pm

27 November 2017
Line crews are making good progress on repairs to the power supply in Roxburgh following heavy rain yesterday.

Flooding and landslips following yesterday’s heavy rain caused power outages on the Aurora Energy electricity network in Roxburgh. A vehicle accident has also caused power outages in Millers Flat.

Our crews are working hard to get power back on to customers as soon as safely possible, however, repairs are being hampered by ground conditions.

We currently have around 300 customers without power in Roxburgh and Millers Flat:

  • 186 customers in the northern part of Roxburgh have been without power since last night. Line crews attended the fault yesterday evening and isolated the area for safety, but could not carry out repairs due to unsafe work conditions caused by the weather. This morning, line crews have been working to connect temporary supply to the town’s water treatment station and get the power back on to customers. We currently expect to restore power to nearly all affected customers later this afternoon. Some individual customers will need to be supplied by generator as a temporary measure while permanent repairs are made.
  • 121 customers in Millers Flat have been without power since last night. Two power poles are being replaced after a vehicle accident. We currently expect to restore power to affected customers later this afternoon.

We thank customers for their patience while we work to restore power to remaining customers. Always keep well clear of fallen power lines or damaged electrical equipment and treat them as live at all times.

Keep safe

We understand the inconvenience that service interruptions cause and we will be working hard to restore power to affected customers as soon as is safely possible. The safety of the public and line crews is of primary importance at all times.

People should take care be prepared for the possibility of electricity-related hazards and power outages, in particular:

  • Always keep well clear of fallen power lines or damaged electrical equipment and treat them as live at all times
  • Watch out for falling tree branches as these can cause damage to power lines
  • If a power outage occurs, switch appliances off at the wall to avoid possible damage to electrical appliances when power is restored
  • Be prepared for power outages. Make sure you have adequate food supplies, warm clothing and bedding, torch and spare batteries, battery radio and an alternative source of heating and cooking.
  • People using medical equipment that relies on electricity should ensure they are prepared for power disruptions and if there is an immediate health threat, contact their health provider or call 111.
