The current status of power outages on the Aurora Energy network in Dunedin following lightning storm and wind overnight is:

  • Power is out to Gresham, Rawhiti and Cavell Streets in Musselburgh and is expected to be restored in the next two hours once emergency generators have been installed. The cause was lightning damage to transformers.
  • Power is out from Weir Road to Taiaroa Head on the Otago Peninsula and is expected to be restored in the next 3-4 hours as soon crews can safely repair the damaged line. The cause was severe wind downing an overhead line.
  • Power has been restored to most consumers in the Port Chalmers area after power lines were downed.

Delta crews are responding to faults and are making repairs as soon as is safely possible. Please report faults to your electricity retailer via their faults number. Please treat all electricity lines and electrical equipment as live at all times. Further updates will be available at www.auroraenergy.co.nz.
