COVID-19 update - Aurora Energy response

Keeping the lights on and the network safe during COVID-19

We hope you and your family are well and staying safe.

As a lifeline utility, Aurora Energy will be maintaining essential operations while New Zealand is at COVID-19 Alert Level 4.

Our repair teams are standing by and ready for any faults or unplanned outages. Our Customer Experience team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so if you do experience an unexpected loss of power then you call us on freephone 0800 22 00 05 and we’ll get someone onto it as quickly as we can.

We intend to maintain high levels of customer service, with some changes to protect our people and the public:

  • Aurora Energy has suspended all non-essential planned work while the country remains at Alert Level 4.
  • We will continue to respond to emergency faults and carry out essential safety work on the network.
  • If we need to turn your power off for essential work, your retailer or Aurora Energy will contact you.

We want to reassure all customers that Aurora Energy staff will continue to work throughout this period to keep the lights on when you need it most.

Follow us on Facebook or visit our website for updates.

We’ll get through this together. Please take care of each other.

OUTAGES

We understand that power outages can be inconvenient. If you will be affected by a planned outage, your electricity retailer will notify you in advance, so you can plan ahead and make alternative arrangements.

On occasion, we may be unable to proceed with work on the day the planned power outage is scheduled due to events beyond our control. Please check this page on the day of the planned power outage in case of a late cancellation.

Please note that outage information on Aurora Energy's website and Facebook page is updated during business hours Monday to Friday only. Please contact us on 0800 22 00 05 for any enquiries outside these times.

Our emergency response service is available 24/7 on 0800 22 00 05.

If you have any questions about outages, please contact us.

What to do if your whole area loses power

Aurora Energy will be working on the problem as soon as it occurs. If you work in a remote or rural area, call your electricity retailer to log the fault. Turn off appliances and electrical equipment – some can be a fire hazard and others might be damaged when the power comes back on.

What to do if your place is the only one without power

Check the circuit breakers and/or fuses on your switchboard to see if it is still working.

If your switchboard seems to be working, you may have a fault in the supply to your premises. Call your electricity retailer to log the fault.

To report an emergency fault, such as a fallen live line, please phone Aurora Energy on 0800 22 00 05.
